Ardbeg lies solitary, in a small cove off the south coast of Islay. Sitting nearby leviathan distilleries; Laphroaig and Lagavulin, Ardbeg has always produced a very sought-after single malt, despite its production scale being less than half that of its neighbours. Historically known and sought after for its robust, peaty single malt, Ardbeg An Oa shows a more approachable, rounded whisky, while retaining the unique distillery style. Finished off in ex-Pedro Ximenez casks, this still has plenty of peaty oomph, although perhaps lighter in body. Notes of cigars and golden syrup with sweet black tea on the tail and hints of chocolate limes.
