En 1801, les deux frères John et James Chivas ont ouvert une épicerie fine sur la côte nord de l'Écosse, à Aberdeen. Ils y offraient une variété de délices provenant des quatre coins du monde – mais aucun whisky n’était disponible. Ainsi, ils ont commencé sans plus tarder à créer leur propre assemblage. Le premier whisky sous la marque Chivas Regal a été présenté en 1909: il s'agissait d'un Scotch Blend exclusif de 25 ans d’âge, conçu comme un produit de luxe pour les «boomtowns» du nord des États-Unis. Le «Chivas Regal 25» d'aujourd'hui, un assemblage exclusif des meilleurs whiskys écossais de malt et de grain, a été inspiré par l'original.
